Every Coach Knows These Problems

Research shows 70% of communication is non-verbal. Your players need to SEE the tactics, not just hear them.

"Where Am I Supposed to Be?"

Players forget positions by matchday

You explain the formation Tuesday. By Saturday, half the team forgot. Send them a visual tactic link - they can review it 10 times before kickoff.

20 Minutes Explaining, 40 Playing

Training sessions that feel too short

Studies show players DON'T learn by listening to lectures - they tune out. Send animated tactics before training. Players arrive already knowing the drill.

Corner Kicks That Go Nowhere

Only 3% of corners result in goals

Research shows teams with dedicated set-piece routines score more. Design corner kicks and free kicks where every player knows exactly where to stand and run.

5 Minutes to Prepare Everything

Verbal explanations that don't stick

Explaining tactics with hand gestures and hoping players remember? Plan it in Tactico, share it on WhatsApp. Players study it before they arrive.

Some Get It, Some Don't

Mixed ability levels in the same squad

Visual tactics help struggling players catch up. They can pause, rewind, and rewatch the animated play until they understand it.

Coaching Shouldn't Burn You Out

Juggling work, family, and the team

Surveys show volunteer coaches feel overwhelmed. Tactico saves prep time - create a tactic once, share it forever. Build a library of plays over the season.

The formation every player understands. Two banks of four, two strikers. Clear defensive shape. Perfect for youth teams learning positional discipline.

🎯

4-2-3-1 Control

Double pivot provides defensive security. #10 plays between the lines. One striker pins centre-backs. The default formation of modern defensive football.

🔄

3-5-2 Wing-Backs

Five in midfield dominates possession. Wing-backs provide width. Two strikers combine. Excellent against 4-4-2 - creates numerical superiority in midfield.

🛡️

How Coaches Use Tactico for Match Tactics

Six steps from an idea in your head to eleven players who know the plan before they walk onto the pitch.

🧭

1. Start From a Shape, Not a Blank Pitch

Five formations load free — 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, 3-5-2 and 5-3-2 — and you can drag any player anywhere on the pitch, so nothing stops you building a shape by hand. Switching the board to 5v5, 7v7, 8v8, 9v9 or 10v10 is free too. Pro unlocks the rest of the preset library, so you load a shape instead of dragging it out every time. Browse the formation guides.

🚩

2. Design Corner Kicks With Named Runners

The standard coaching advice on attacking corners is to nominate one player for the near post, one for the centre and one for the far post, rather than sending bodies into the box without a job. Put each player exactly where you want them, draw the run each one makes with the movement tool, and number the badges so the order is unambiguous. Do the same for the defensive version — mark who picks up which zone, and who attacks the first ball.

3. Make the Pressing Trigger Visible

A press only works when the whole team reacts to the same cue — a back pass to the goalkeeper, a heavy first touch, a defender receiving with their back to goal. Draw who jumps with the movement tool, then shade the space you are conceding on purpose with the zone and area tools. Number badges and text labels let you mark the order players go, so "press high" stops being a hopeful instruction.

4. Animate the Ideas a Still Picture Can't Carry

Rotations, overloads and counter-press recovery runs are hard to read as arrows. Add keyframes, move the players, press play, and the board fills in the movement between positions. Record the result to video and hand it to the squad. Free accounts get one animation and one video export to try it; after that animation and recording are Pro. See the drill animator.

📤

5. Send It Before Players Arrive

Sign in with a free account and press Share. Tactico turns the tactic into a link and gives you a WhatsApp button next to it — paste it into the team group and players open it in a browser on their phone. Nothing to install on their side, no account for them to create. Reviewing the plan the night before beats explaining it in the car park.

📋

6. Turn the Tactic Into a Training Session

A tactic only sticks if you coach it. The drill library holds 100 drills across twelve categories, including 20 possession drills, 11 defending drills, 7 set-piece drills and 5 pressing drills. Slot them into a session plan with timings and print it to take onto the grass. Build a training session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything youth football coaches ask us

Do I need to download an app?

No download required. Tactico is a free soccer tactical board that works directly in your browser - Chrome, Safari, Firefox. Open the link and start creating formations instantly.

What youth soccer formations are supported?

All youth formats: 5v5 (U7-U8), 7v7 soccer formations (U9-U10), 9v9 formations (U11-U12), and full 11v11 (U13+). Drag and drop to customize any formation.

Can I plan and share tactics from my phone?

You can view and share tactics from a phone — open a tactic link, send it via WhatsApp, and players can view on any device. The tactical board itself (drag-and-drop, animations, recording) is built for desktop and tablet. Native iOS and Android apps are in development for full mobile coaching.

How do I share tactics via WhatsApp?

Click share, copy the link, paste into your team WhatsApp group. Players open it on their phones - no app download needed. They see exactly what you created.

Is this soccer coaching app free?

Yes, the tactical board is completely free online. Create formations, draw arrows, share tactics. Pro features (animated drills, cloud sync) are $5/month with 7-day free trial.

Can I create set pieces and corner kicks?

Yes. Use the set piece creator for corner kicks, free kicks, throw-ins. Position every player, draw their runs, share with the team. Improve your set piece conversion rate.

How do I plan a corner kick routine?

Place each player where you want them, then draw the run each one makes with the movement tool and use number badges to fix the order. Standard coaching practice is to nominate a specific runner for the near post, the centre and the far post rather than sending players in without a role. The same approach works for defending corners — mark who takes which zone and who attacks the first ball.

How do I show a pressing trigger on a tactical board?

Put the ball where the trigger happens — a back pass to the keeper, a heavy first touch, a defender receiving with their back to goal. Draw who jumps with the movement tool and who covers behind, then shade the space you're conceding on purpose with the zone and area tools. Number badges mark the order players press in.

Which soccer formations can I use for free?

Five presets load free: 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, 3-5-2 and 5-3-2. Dragging players anywhere and switching between 5v5, 7v7, 8v8, 9v9, 10v10 and 11v11 are free too, so any shape can be built by hand. The rest of the formation preset library is part of Pro.
